Skyrim map expansion: every area the DLC added
Each official Skyrim map expansion added new ground in a different way. Dawnguard dropped new dungeons into the existing province and opened two separate realms. Dragonborn added an entire island. Hearthfire only added three plots of land, and the Anniversary Edition's Creation Club content scattered a few dozen homes and dungeons across the map.
This page lists what each expansion put on the map and where to find it. The Dawnguard and Hearthfire locations in Skyrim are pinned below; Solstheim has its own map.

Dawnguard: new dungeons and two new realms
Dawnguard is the vampire expansion. It adds almost 30 places, most of them inside the existing map. The two factions get bases at opposite ends of the country: Fort Dawnguard in Dayspring Canyon east of Riften, and Castle Volkihar on an island off the northwest coast, reached by boat from Icewater Jetty.
The questline runs through Dimhollow Crypt in the Pale, where Serana is found, Ancestor Glade in Falkreath Hold, and Darkfall Cave in the Reach, which is the entrance to the Forgotten Vale, a hidden glacial valley of the Falmer with its own word walls. The Soul Cairn, a plane of Oblivion reached from a portal at Castle Volkihar, is a second new worldspace; see our Soul Cairn map.
Smaller additions include Arkngthamz and the Aetherium quest, Redwater Den, Ruunvald Excavation, Moldering Ruins and Forebears' Holdout. Our dataset tags 14 Skyrim locations as Dawnguard content.
Hearthfire: three plots of land
Hearthfire does not add dungeons. It adds three buildable homesteads, each bought for 5,000 gold from the local jarl or steward once you have helped that hold.
- Lakeview Manor in Falkreath Hold, south of Lake Ilinalta.
- Windstad Manor in the Hjaalmarch marshes north of Morthal.
- Heljarchen Hall in the Pale, south of Dawnstar with a view down to Whiterun.
It also lets you adopt children and adds small changes to the existing city homes. Full details are on the Hearthfire houses page.
Dragonborn: the island of Solstheim
Dragonborn is the largest expansion of the map. After Miraak's cultists attack, you can take the ship from the Windhelm docks to Raven Rock on Solstheim, an ash-covered island between Skyrim and Morrowind. The island has its own settlements, Skaal Village in the north and the mushroom tower of Tel Mithryn in the east, plus Nordic barrows, three Dwemer ruins and the Temple of Miraak at the centre.
Reading a Black Book takes you into Apocrypha, Hermaeus Mora's realm, which works as a series of separate worldspaces rather than one connected map. Our Solstheim dataset holds 103 locations including the seven Black Book sites, the All-Maker stones and 19 East Empire pendants; see the Black Books guide.
Anniversary Edition and Creation Club areas
The Anniversary Edition bundles the Creation Club content. Rather than one new region, it adds many small areas across the existing map. Our dataset tags 20 of them. The player homes are Tundra Homestead east of Whiterun, Myrwatch east of Morthal, Hendraheim in the Reach, Bloodchill Manor inside Bloodchill Cavern in Winterhold, Gallows Hall on Mara's Eye Pond, Goldenhills Plantation east of Rorikstead, Shadowfoot Sanctum under Riften, the Dwemer home Nchuanthumz reached through Frostroot Cave, and the ship Dead Man's Dread at Blackbone Isle.
New dungeons include Runoff Caverns (Forgotten Seasons), Champion's Rest (Umbra), Gromm's Pass (Goblins), Rielle and Red Scar Cavern (The Cause), Solitude Sewers (Saints and Seducers) and Ashfall's Tear on Solstheim (Ghosts of the Tribunal).
Unofficial expansions: mods
Beyond the official content, the modding community has built large map expansions such as Beyond Skyrim: Bruma, which adds the northern part of Cyrodiil across the southern border, and Falskaar, a new island. These are not part of our map. Everything pinned on this site is from the base game, the three official expansions or the Anniversary Edition.
On the map: 17 locations
Falkreath Hold 2
Hjaalmarch 1
The Pale 2
The Reach 2
Whiterun Hold 1
